I”ve been skeptical of Marvel’s relaunch of many of its core titles. In some cases, it seems half-hearted at best (see: The Mighty Thor). But New Avengers #1 really knocked my socks right off my ass and I’ll tell you why.
Steve Epting is a fucking genius of an artist and his pencils (along with Rick Maygar’s inks) make this book a true delight to behold. The art harkens back to the days of yore when Marvel actually employed decent artists who drew characters like heroes and not as third rate emo, Vertigo outcasts.
Jonathan Hickman’s writing shines as well as the story focuses on The Black Panther and that wonderfully mysterious land of Wakanda. Make sure you pick this book up-stat!
