When I was a kid, my second favorite comic book was Marvel Team Up. Most of the reason for this was the fact that my favorite super hero (and favorite book) was the Amazing Spider Man. Each month, Spidey would join forces with some cool hero from the Marvel Universe and have a fantastically cool adventure.
Times have changed, of course, and now Spidey is actually Doc Ock but that doesn’t make Superior Spider Man Team up any less of a great book and my pick o’ the week. The first few pages offer a big mystery…why is Spider Man running around and beating up super heroes? The answer sets the tone for not only the first story arc but likely the whole series.
Christ Yost’s writing is spot on in this debut issue with the artwork from David Lopez and Paolo Rivera reminding me of those old Team Up issues from the 1970s. A great book, folks, that is a must for your pull list even if you aren’t buying Superior Spider Man.
